Photo Friday: The Strangest Mascot in All of Sports

Yeah, I’m speechless too, and I took this picture almost a month ago.

That’s my daughter with Henry the Puffy Taco, one of the mascots of the San Antonio Missions minor league baseball team.

After a Sunday afternoon game, E. got to run the bases. She high-fived Ballapeño (the other Missions mascot) as she rounded first, and was brave enough to pose for a picture with Henry after she reached home plate.

Is it just me, or is he a little creepy?! Oh well, we love him anyway.

Photo Friday: Thinking of West Texas and the Wildfires

A little over a month since our visit to West Texas, the area is struggling to recover from wildfires that destroyed land, homes and businesses, livestock, and wildlife. The scope of the fires is difficult to comprehend.

I’m sharing a picture from our West Texas trip. I took this photo at Balmorhea State Park. It was such a peaceful moment, out there with very few people around, watching my daughter walk across that red bridge and explore the park. I have wonderful memories of West Texas, and it seemed appropriate to share one of those memories today.

Photo Friday: A Greenway Adventure

Earlier this week, we took a stroll along the Leon Creek Greenway in San Antonio. While the majority of the trail consists of concrete surfaces, we did venture onto one of the natural surface off-shoots.

We didn’t walk very far–about a half mile–but I’m trying to make sure that we spend some time outdoors each day.

The City of San Antonio maintains 23 miles of greenway trails and is contructing an additional 14 miles.

Photo Friday: Sometimes Travel is Boring

During our big winter road trip from San Antonio to St. Louis and back via New Orleans and elsewhere, we stopped after many hours of driving. Unfortunately, we couldn’t find any fun or unique or interesting places to stop, so we ended up at a fast-food restaurant that none of us particularly like. Good times.

Somewhere in Texas: Bathroom Graffiti

We stopped at a gas station on our way out west, and I noticed the following notes written on the door of the bathroom stall.

I’m a rule-follower, so I didn’t add myself to the list. However, I couldn’t help but read the various notes. I hope everyone had a safe trip, both the rule-followers like myself and the restroom rebels.

Making New Friends in Marfa, Texas

Photo Friday: Endless Hill Country

I took this picture from my car with my iPhone. It only took a second to snap this photo, but I think it sums up my fascination with the Texas Hill Country.

The Hill Country goes on like this for miles and miles. Yes, it’s sprinkled with small towns, and those small towns have a lot to offer in terms of well-preserved architecture and more historical markers than you could read in a lifetime. But what really intrigues me about the Hill Country is just driving through it. You can take more thoroughly-travelled highways like I-10, or you can explore the smaller two-lane roads that wind through rolling hills.

I’ve heard that if “endless” is really what you’re looking for, then West Texas is the place to go. I’ll be sure to take a picture from my car and share it here on the blog after I visit West Texas next month!
